Any other response is nothing other than selfish.If we could, we would adopt all the stray cats in our neighborhood, nay, the world, and bring them into our home so that they would never have to experience hunger or being cold ever again. However, we don't have millions of dollars for unlimited cat litter and food, so we can't. We adopt them when we have the space, try to find homes for them if we can't take them in, feed them, and try to give them as much love as pawssible. This way, they're more likely to adapt easily to an indoor life. We miss them when they get adopted, or run away, but we would never intentionally keep them stray just so we could enjoy their company, which is what these entitled employees want. They had a resident stray cat outside their workplace that some of them adored, but as the temperatures started dropping, one kind coworker decided to take the plunge and make her a purrmanent pet. The response from their coworkers purrfectly dumbfounded us beyond all doubt. All we can say is, they're not true cat people.

This cat's life must have been something difficult, to say the least, but the love he received is reflected in his journey - his fur came back, he became healthy again, and he's a friendly feline to both the human and the other cats in the household. It's not nice to call a beautiful young lady "bald", even if she is!We're not going to sit here and pretend like we're expurrt geneticists, but we do know a thing or two about cats, so that's where we're going with this story. Cats can get pregnant multiple times per year, and the kittens in the litter can even have different fathers, which makes how the kittens turn out purrfectly interesting. After one of her two cats had a litter of healthy kittens, this cat mom was caught off guard when she went to inspect them. One of her kitty's kittens was bald! Completely hairless. Now, the cats might have had some Sphynx in their DNA, it could be a random mutation, or that momma cat got busy with a Sphynx, but we highly doubt that one. Despite being hairless, she's still as cute as ever, and purrfectly healthy.

Out of all the creatures we let live in our house, cats are the best at saying "no".Dogs always want your love and affection. If they had it their way, they would be glued to your side 24 hours a day. But cats? Cats are more temperamental creatures. When they want your love, they will tell you, and when they don't want it, they will tell you even louder. And by louder, we usually mean with a hiss, a scratch, or the worst of all, their purrfectly judgmental side eye. And although we know that sometimes they want their space, we simply can't resist the chance to annoy them and tell them how much we love them, even if it means facing their feline fury for a spicy second. The word "diet" is not part of any cat's vocabulary, and they refuse to learn it. We will start this by saying that chonky cats are amazing. And we love them. And they exist. There are cats out there who are just a little bigger than usual and have a hard time losing weight, and that is okay. We love them anyway. In fact, there is more cat to love with cats like that. With that said, some cats do need to de-chonkify. There comes a stage in these cats' lives where enough is enough, and something has to be done. But that does not mean that they have to like it. Or accept it. Now, olive oil, as everyone knows, is pretty healthy. But maybe you don't want to drink it right out of the bottle. Which is exactly what this cat, who is in need of de-chonkification, was doing in the middle of the night, behind his owner's back. Olive oil. We've heard of cats who like bread, we've heard of cats who love veggies, but we have not yet encountered a cat who chooses olive oil as its weird human food addiction. But now, his owner knows. He's been caught red-pawed, and access to the olive oil will be removed. And maybe the de-chonkification could actually commence.

A screaming little stranger ran out of the cold and picked a family.A tiny black kitten came running out of the cold and announced himself at full volume. He sprinted straight to this pawrent's husband, yelling and trying to climb his leg like he'd already decided this was home. With temperatures dropping into the teens overnight, there wasn't much debate. The kitten was coming inside.He was set up in the home office, safely separated from the two resident cats, and immediately proved he was built for indoor life. He's friendly, trusting, and runs on nonstop purring. The other cats are curious but calm, watching the situation unfold without much fuss. For now, the office is his base camp, and he gets regular cuddle visits because being alone is not his favorite activity.He's been temporarily named Tux, which suits a small black kitten who arrived dressed for the occasion. He's estimated to be around six months old, still young enough to shout his feelings and demand constant company. A vet visit and microchip scan are lined up just in case someone is looking for him, though he doesn't look like a cat who's been cared for recently.At the moment, he's warm, safe, and loudly appreciative of both. He showed up yelling and settled into purring, which feels like a pretty clear sign he landed exactly where he meant to.

It was a dark and stormy night, and what do you see but a helpless kitty, scared and cold in the rain, so you take him in. It comes across like a fairytale: a little helpless critter, alone outside. One particularly stormy night barges in, and this kind human decides to do what's right. He sees the cat in the rain, and decides to take him inside. He brings him to the basement first, since he doesn't know anything about cats or how to care for them. The cat initially isn't so happy about being brought to the basement, but eventually warms up. The human cares for the animal, and over time they have a bond stronger than either of them could imagine. Now the kitty is a full-time roommate who is always in the shared spaces with his precious owner, as well as his rescue dog. The basement remains his personal domain! Every cat must have his kingdom.

Philosophers from ancient Greece got only so far in giving humanity solace for these pressing questions, these existential pleas. There's really one answer, and it's simple: cats. Cats give lightness to life, they exist as posits of joy and escape. We live with them, dine with them, and love them with all our hearts, and they simply sit there begging for more tuna and meowing. Instead of crying into the night's sky with your fists in the air, wondering why we're here, why life is suffering, and where are we left to go, scroll these happy and lighthearted cat memes to omit the heavy burden of life's pressure. 

You might have thought that your house cat's connection to their big cat cousins is all but gone. But as you will come to find in this story those instincts are alive and well, if a bit wild and untamed…Which makes some sense if you think about it from the perspective of the cat. So it should come as little to no surprise that this story happened and that the cat child who perpetrated the madness was simply not prepared to handle the power of its own instincts. 

"Jingle bells, cold stings like nails, let me in right meow!" 🎶If your cat loves the snow, you probably won some life lottery. Because most cats hate the snow, they despise it. And honestly, a lot of people do, too. Sure, the snow might look beautifully dreamy, like a Disney movie, but it's also freezing cold, slippery like a life hazard, and some people think it's funny to take balls of it and throw it at you. Snow is dreamy only in dreams. But we have to admit, when a cat goes outside in the snow and discovers they like it, it's probably the cutest thing to witness.Cats who jump in snow as if they're a bird flying through fluffy clouds is the wholesome side of this season. Winter can be harsh to cats, but when they accept it, snow really does feel like a Disney movie for a second. Magical.But even if your cat isn't a wintery fan of the current weather, we have to appreciate the people going out and building snowmen - but specifically snowcats. Looking at a snowman, but in cat form, is like looking at more cats - and that's never a bad idea in our humble opinion.

Whose cat is it, anyway?If this question is applicable to a cat, you know they roam the neighborhood like they own it, as if they run it with an iron paw. Some people are sure their cat is their cat, until they find out the family's feline was two-timing them all along. But even a cat has double the family, usually their original humans know what's up, they're aware of their cat's doings, and it's ok that they're ok with it. But some people just let their cat roam, and that we, admittedly, don't really understand. It can lead to some complicated situations, such as a cat stuck outside in the snow, which is a literal hazard. There might always be kind neighbors to take these cats in, but what if there aren't enough nice people around? What if there are other dangers outside, that even the kinderst of people can't help prevent?All of these questions popped into our heads when we read about Salem, the roaming void cat whose owners don't seem to look for during an entire night. He was taken care of, for sure (and we're happy he had a safe and warm night), but really, it begs the question - whose cat is it, anyway?

You can take the cat out of the stomp, but you can't take the stomp out of the cat.You might think that cats are quiet, graceful creatures. And some of them are, but some walk about as loudly as a stampede of elephants. We have no idea why, but they will quite literally stomp while walking. But even when they purroudly put their tiny legs down in a deliberate fashion, it doesn't make that much noise. There's only so much force that can be generated by a 5-inch leg and about 12 pounds of force. People have a right to want their neighbors to be quiet, but there has to be a good reason for a noise complaint as well. Like we said earlier, a party past midnight definitely counts, but cats walking "too loudly" certainly does not. The downstairs neighbor even went so far as to call the police on her "noisy" neighbor's felines, and when they arrived, they laughed and went home. The cops may have giggled as well, but we're pretty sure the pawrent got the purrfect last laugh.

If there's one thing dads and cats have in common, it's dad jokes and naps, but that's two things and it's clear that we're no meowthmetician. These memes are so stoopid you won't be able to resist saying "That's a real knee-slapper!" and then slap your knee.Cats are often purrtrayed as feminine, but really, they're all just middle-aged dads at heart. They have a disdain for trying new things, love their routine, enjoy nothing more than a good nap in a comfy chair, and they both love to pretend that they don't like affection. But most of all, they love to tell a stoopid joke. A joke that's so bad you laugh out of pity, a joke that's so bad you want to wipe it from your meowmory with disinfectant. They're so bad that you can't help but laugh at them, that they've rounded the corner from bad to good by being so purrfectly idiotic. We know because cats have been using terrible puns in their memes since the beginning of meme history, and also because our cat always laughs at our dad jokes. So, the meme wizards here at I Can Has Cheezburger whipped up some original feline funnies this week that are just awful. Terrible. Horrific. But they're also so bad that you can't look away from them, you have to keep scrolling out of a pawsitively silly desire to know if they're really as bad as the one before. They're purrfect for cat owners because they're made by feline fanatics who love cats almost as much as we do. We're sorry, but also not sorry, for sharing these with you. It's Furiday, so we thought you could use a hearty laugh, and this is the best we could do on such short notice. See you next week!

Talking about your cats at work should not be reprimanded, it should be mandatory. Look, we don't know, maybe it's just in our office - our very cat-centric office - that it is highly accepted to talk about cats all the time. But we don't think so. We think that people talking about their cats, people showing off cute pictures of cats, people sending each other funny memes of cats througout the day, it's not only normal, it's actually good for the overall morale of the office. Because cats are just… pawsome. Even people who don't have cats or who are not as obsessed with cats as we are are happy to talk about them and see pictures of them. In our humble opinion, people should tell funny anecdotes about cats, show pictures and videos of them, and talk about them in general much, much more often. Office included. To think that the person in this story got reprimanded for even less than that - for just telling one of their coworkers that they have cats is absolutely ridiculous. Especially considering the fact that the person who is doing the reprimanding has two giant portraits of their own dogs in their office right behind them. 

If your cat approves of your partner, they will make sure that you know about it right away. And that's important. It's actually necessary. Because if your cat doesn't approve of your partner, that is something that you should listen to. Cats know good people, and if they don't like someone, it usually happens for a reason. The way that people interact with cats is a huge sign. There are people who are are jealous of their partner's love for their cat. There are people who humiliate their partners for missing their cats when they run away. And then there are people who, behind their partner's backs, do everything that they can to bond with their partner's cats. And the cat then shows its appreciation and approval. It can go in either direction, but if a cat approves, you will know it. And the cat in today's story made sure that his owner knew that he approved of the girlfriend very, very quickly. For 12 whole years, this cat refused to sit in his owner's lap. Despite their bond, despite the fact that his owner wanted it very much. But the second his owner's girlfriend moved into their home, the kitty - just like that - decided that his new favorite spot for cuddles was her lap. And the owner's response… adorable. 

In a world as hectic as this one, all we crave is some pure wholesomeness in the form of cat memes. Everything moves so fast around us nowadays. Our jobs, the people we know and love, the news cycle. Everything seems to be moving too fast. Only one thing in our lives remains steady, and it is the only thing that really matters. It is our escape from the real world. Something positive - purely pawsitive - that takes nothing and only gives. We are, of course, talking about funny cat memes. If there is one thing that we can count on when it comes to the internet, it is a steady supply of hilarious cat memes. No matter what is going on in the world, no matter what is happening in people's individual lives, they will always - and we mean always find time to make memes and share memes. It is the best thing about the internet and probably one of the only reasons that we haven't completely lost our minds yet. We are simple people, craving wholesomeness in a world that sensationalizes everything but, and scrolling through silly cat memes on the internet is where we get our fix. 

Dog owners spend months, maybe even years, researching breeds and preparing their home for a dog; alternatively, cat lovers stumble upon a stray kitty by the dumpster one day and decide to take them home. We are not the same.Cat owners don't want to come off as superior or anything like that, but when it comes to pets, cats are clearly the ideal. There's no contest. There's no need to take them outside during a blizzard; they make biscuits on your lap when they're cozy, and they purr in your ear when it's time to go to bed. A woman in Ohio runs a cat rescue operation all on her own. When she came across a cat limping in the freezing cold snow, she immediately went to work. After failed catches and sleepless nights, she was able to save the baby!This cat went from freezing cold street dweller to the biggest snuggly bug indoor baby. The woman says he is already scheduled for a vet visit, but she has sprayed his paw with wound spray, and the kitty is acting so much better.

The noise complaint turned into a rescue mission.On the hottest day of the year, a tiny kitten was crying from inside a bush outside a workplace and absolutely refusing to be ignored. A neighbor complained about the noise. Security came to check. Security happened to be a mom who took one look at the situation and decided that kitten was not staying there. She curls around feet like a personal heater and chases laser dots with serious dedication. Before drinking water she crosses her paws neatly, like she's following a ritual only she understands. She even outgrew the elder cat in the house. The bush kitten who screamed for help is gone. In her place is a spoiled, happy cat who knows exactly where she belongs.

I had the opportunity to team up with Birdlife Montenegro once again over a short but delightful collaboration. Project PACON aims to promote sustainable ecotourism and popularize biodiversity in Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro. I created these cartoon illustrations on three iconic bird species in three ecotourism sites in the three countries respectively- the Rock Partridge at Lovcen (Montenegro), the Green Woodpecker at Tuzla (Bosnia) and the Common Kingfisher at Sopotac (Croatia). Cartoons created for the Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies' gathering of their climate and environment portfolio grantees, which were designed as caption contests for the participants. While the cartoons I am posting here bear my original captions, the cartoons initially displayed to the participants were captionless, inviting them to team up over filling in the caption clouds, resulting in a delightful icebreaking and team-building exercise, as well as some truly hilarious and ingenious captions!A big thanks to the RNP team for the opportunity.To view the cartoons with captions written by the participants at the event, visit IDR Online.

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to draw cartoons on one of the most desired mammals on my wildlife wishlist- the Mediterranean Monk Seal. The cartoons are meant as commuication resources for SPA/RAC's Mediterranean Monk Seal Project, to unite biologists, conservationists, funders, governments, fishers and citizens in the conservation of the Mediterranean Monk Seal. Thanks to Julie Belmont and SPA/RAC for this fun commission!

I recently had the pleasure of collaborating with Birdlife Montenegro over three delightful cartoons on bird ringing, that were used as creatives on communication collateral and merchandise at the bird ringing camp at Ulcinj Salina, an important wetland and migratory bird pathway on the Adriatic Sea. A huge thanks to Ksenija Medenica and the CZIP Montenegro team for the opportunity! (For context in the second cartoon- Montenegrins are considered the laziest among Europe, and they're so proud of the tag that they even have a laziness contest!)

Happy #WorldTurtleDay ! Delighted to share the first of two comics I created for the impact campaign of Gunjan Menon's National Geographic film, 'Looking for Lao Mura', about the critically endangered Black Softshell Turtle. Doubly chuffed that the comics will be up on display in Assamese locally! In collaboration with Freshwater Turtles and Tortoises of IndiaSo grateful for this opportunity, Gunjan, Anuja Mital and Pradeep Hegde!

(Click on the image for a larger view)In one of my lengthiest and most detailed illustration projects yet, I got the honour of working closely with the fabulous team at The Seachange Project (creators of the Oscar winning documentary 'My Octopus Teacher')- to create a vision of hope for the Great African Seaforest, a vast expanse of kelp forest in the Atlantic Ocean along the western coast of South Africa. From the glamorous Cape Fur Seal, Cape Clawless Otter and the African Penguin to little known klipfish and limpets, the Great African Seaforest is home to a myriad marine organisms that make the kelp a living, breathing, and a dancing ecosystem! Many of these creatures are threatened by overfishing and anthropogenic disturbances today, and conservationists at the Seachange Project are working towards establishing safe, undisturbed habitats for these species to bounce back.The illustration is available as a freely downloadable resource on the organization's website here. A massive thanks to the Seachange team (Swati Thiyagarajan, Craig Foster, Carina Frankal, Dani Ehrlich, Jannes Landschoff) for trusting me with the illustration, for having me at Cape Town for a field visit, and for their patience through the project!

If you too have had a long face reading about the decimation of the Saiga Antelope's populations from hunting and disease over the years, there's some news that might bring a smile to your face too! Efforts by the Kazakh government, NGOs and people have paid off enough to bring the Saiga from critically endangered to near-threatened on the IUCN Red List. In these times, that's a long jump, even for an antelope!Not-so-fun-fact: The bird in the comic strip, a Sociable Lapwing, is a critically endangered steppe species too.Comic for DW Envronment.

After earning a dubious reputation the world over, carbon credits are coming to India in the form of the Green Credits Programme. After decades of consistently failing to preserve wetlands, grasslands and scrublands, the MoEFCC and the Government of India refuse to even recognize these as crucial ecosystems. New studies have found that hybridization between two of the largest animals on earth- the Blue Whale and the Fin Whale, is far more common than previously thought. What's more, some of these hybrids have also found to be fertile, indicating the occurrence to be beneficial particularly for the endangered Blue Whale! Cartoon for Roundglass Sustain. 

(click on the image for a larger view)Every mountaineer dreams of summiting the Himalayas where they are at their mightiest- Nepal. As an illustrator and an orophile, my dream of summiting Nepal's mountains was through drawing them, and this map of our beautiful neighbour's biodiversity, mountains and people, created for the International Mountain Museum at Pokhara, was the perfect opportunity! From the tallest peaks in the world to the most pristine grasslands, from creatures as large as the Wild Yak and the bone-cracking Lammergeiers, to the diminutive Hispid Hare and the Himalayan Newt, from intricate architectural marvels like the Darbar Square monuments to the rustic Mustang Caves, here is Nepal in all its glory.Nepal's majesty, mystique and aura can never be justly captured in illustration, and certainly not contemporary illustration. So when this challenge was thrown at me, I was convinced that incorporating stylistic elements from its indigenous art form Paubha (the precursor to Himalayan Thangka) would be the only way of doing justice to a project of this nature. I must convey a huge thanks to Samuel Thomas for facilitating a visit to the veteran Nepalese Paubha artist Lok Chitrakar's art studio, where I received some very important quick tips and insights into not just the art form but also the mind of the Paubha artists who he trains. The map will soon be on display at the International Mountain Museum. If you happen to visit Pokhara, do pay the museum a visit!

A new study shows that the Palghat Gap in southern India is the barrier separating the various colour morphs of the endemic gastropod Indrella ampulla.
